Meet your makers

Nathan De Candia

Founder

Nathan’s introduction to the power of injection moulding came via his decades-long involvement in the swimming pool industry. During a career starting with servicing and maintenance of pool equipment, through to the wholesale distribution of innovative high-end products like pool suction cleaners, chlorinators, pumps and quality aftermarket spare parts, he relied on plastic injection moulding to get the job done. Combining solid technical and business knowledge, Nathan started NDC Plastics to inject new value into Australian innovation and industry.

Karl Richards

Tool Room Manager

Our industrial design and manufacturing expert Karl has spent decades on the tools in CNC workshops and manipulating CAD files. Fully trade-qualified as a tool and die maker, with an industrial design degree to boot, he’s more than made his mark in the toolrooms and design houses lucky enough to have him. His work on the Guardian hands-free communication system contributed to their team earning an Australian Design Award. More recently, he was involved in designing laboratory equipment used for qPCR testing, vital to the Covid-19 health response. At NDC Plastics, Karl’s geared up to apply his unique skillset and vast experience to your design idea or business challenge.

Outsourcing isn't what it used to be...

Rising labour costs, IP risks, and logistics challenges have taken some shine off foreign manufacturing. While it can work well for specific cases (like moulding extra-large parts or assembling multi-component products), it’s worth considering costs beyond the financial. It may seem cheaper on paper, but for product design, prototyping, and rapid supply of critical components, local wins every time.

Local manufacturers offer unique advantages like:

Fast, easy results – avoid communication breakdowns and international shipping delays that hold up product development

• Ironclad confidentiality – don’t stake your IP on agreements in a foreign jurisdiction.

• Robust quality control – keep an eye on your manufacturer (we won’t mind) to ensure output is of the highest quality.

• Supporting Aussie manufacturing – contribute to developing our domestic economy and ongoing resilience.
